Since 2008, Comme des Garçons has collaborated with artists creating seasonal booklets for their collections that were sent to best customers, museums, collectors, galleries, and friends - elevating direct mailing into an art form. In 2010, Ai Weiwei was invited to contribute to these innovative mailers, incorporating pop-up 3D elements. Here we have the booklet #7 showcasing Ai’s ‘Fairytale Chairs’ installation of 1001 Qing-dynasty chairs arranged within the exhibition space of Documenta 12 (2007) in Kessel, Germany.
