In Japan, love hotels were known for their over-the-top and delightfully bizarre designs. By the 2000s, however, stricter laws and shifting morality codes led to the rapid disappearance of these notorious establishments, and with them, their unique retro charm. In this work, the Japanese photographer Kyoichi Tsuzuki captures this fading cultural heritage through a curated selection of meticulously photographed rooms. From revolving beds and shell-shaped bathtubs to punishment benches, he guides viewers through the inventive and playful interiors of this provocative architectural typology. Exciting!
